Definitely inspirational piece. First and for most I have been a reader.Ever since I learnt to read, I have loved to read. Then, I used to write in a notebook, all sorts of things, most often my feelings, that were unseen, unheard of, or considered inconsequential. I loved writing letters, I had a pen pal. I went to university at 30, separated, three children and a very part time job! Loved writing, post grad loved writing and the masters, I was in my element! Many years have past since then, I am a nannie and a PhD student! Writing and I seemed to have lost each other, I can't work out when or why. Not a great place when writing a PhD!

Recently, I think something clicked and that freeze, dread, seems to have moved away. I found a network that I joined and it's helped to find more joy in writing, to express my passion for my PhD topic. Oh look at that I have written something publicly!

I started Substack because there was way too much going on in my head and wanted somewhere let it go/have some use/connect with others in my own time. It is wonderful and no pressure (once you learn to avoid the need for validation through numbers).

Exactly... it's good to use writing as a release like that

Fascinating. I have only limited use of Substack currently, mainly following people that I'm already connected with on LinkedIn and to support them and read longer form articles. Maybe I need to focus my attention more on Substack. I love to read and write, but many people I know don't like to read longer than a standard LinkedIn post. Lots of food for thought anyway. I haven't been finding the time to write longer form articles lately as busier with work and I do miss it, but like other habits it's harder to get back into when I've had a break.

I think you have to write for your own pleasure and then go from there. It's true that many people don't have the attention span or time to read longer pieces. It's noisy out there. It's definitely worth you writing on here but write because you need to write 😉☺️
